AEIOU are the quiet persuaders, taking you gently, patiently by the hand and leading you into a future world of metal and plastic splashed with candy colours.

They strike the delicate balance of making smart pop music without losing the raw innocence that can invest a love song with the weight of the universe. Keen intelligence clothed in refreshing simplicity: the reconciling of the lion and the lamb.

There's subtle complexity in their music, layers beneath the polished surface - the closer you listen, the more you hear. Lean, satisfying synths and infectious drum grooves are overlaid with the sweet melancholy of the band's twin vocalists: R&B princess Djemeia and the gentle toughness of Jibcae, whose understated delivery seems to say "My heart may be breaking, but it's my business". There's a lot happening - but like a good magic trick, the process fades into the whole and becomes invisible unless you know just where to look.

The sound of early 80s post-punk is never far away, yet it's not retro music: they've absorbed and integrated more recent lessons too, the power of minimalism and the intelligent use of The Glitch. Atmospheric sounds come and go, sweeping or muttering or dancing in the music's wake, like dust motes in winter sunlight.

AEIOU's is an electronic world, buffered by all-too-human feeling. The secret tears of the machine, the longing of flesh and silicon alike for transcendence…
